The Matrix Group Engineering Consultants has provided full MEP, FP, and Structural Engineering services on Kohl’s department stores in nearly 40 states throughout the United States. The Matrix Group was instrumental in developing a “Green” prototypical department store model which would eventually achieve a USGBC LEED Silver rating, a standard for all future new stores to be designed and built to.
One key element used for electrical distribution was the use of Eaton IFS distribution. IFS stands for “Integrated Facility Systems”. This was a manufactured section of power distribution equipment that combines distribution panels, dry-type transformers and branch circuit panelboards into one single footprint, pre-wired and ready for branch circuiting. This is major time savings for the Contractors in the field and is a cost savings for Kohl’s. IFS equipment also contained lighting panels that utilized controllable “smart-breakers” that can be used for lighting control, without the need a separate relay cabinet.
